We’re now embarking on a further phase of work, this time focusing on completing restoration of the exterior stonework and reflooring, conserving two of the Minster’s great heritage treasures – the Horsey Monument and the Princess Elizabeth Memorial, repairing the West Door and remaining stained glass windows and installing improvements to all our internal accessibility and visitor facilities.
The Project will establish Newport Minster as a vibrant religious and cultural centre at the heart of the Island. It will share the Minster’s long and fascinating heritage with local people and visitors to the island of all faiths and none. Not only will the church be in much better order, but it will become a cultural magnet for the island with all the facilities required to stage exhibitions, concerts, meetings and plays. Locally, it will become a centre for learning and wellbeing activities.
The National Heritage Lottery Fund and a very generous donor have shown confidence in our programme and offered grants totalling c£2.25million. We now need to raise the final £250,000 to enable the work to proceed. We are applying to grant-making trusts and foundations for contributions to this target, but the project will be dependent on the generosity and support of the island community and diaspora.
Could you help us reach this target? Your donation would make such a difference to the future of the Minster and the communities it serves.

Pictures from Phase 5 of the restoration
Phase 5 of the restoration of Newport Minster was completed in June 2017. The work restored the east end of the church including the kitchen and Horsey Chapel. The large east window and main lights of the Horsey Chapel window were removed and repaired in a specialist workshop.
Inside the west door, the pews beneath the organ gallery were removed and a new stone floor laid to create a light, open space to welcome people into the church. A new interpretation board installed there helps visitors have an overview of the History of the Minster.
