Newport Heritage Day
On Saturday 7th September a new free festival comes to Newport Minster as part of the National Heritage Open Days Scheme to celebrate hidden aspects of the Island’s county town. The Minster is working alongside Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council, Shaping Newport, Newport Business Association and the Classic Motor show.
A number of Newport’s historic buildings will be open for free for you to explore including
- Newport Masonic Centre
- The Museum of Island History
- 64 High Street, with an exhibition on 1st Newport Scouts
- Newport Minster
- Special shop displays showing the history of the building
- Bus tours around the town

Newport Minster will also have special guests
- IWC Finds Liaison Officer and Archaeology team
- The Commonwealth War Graves Commission
- Unity Hall
- IW Family History Society
And events and activities including
- Creative activities with artist Trudie Wilson
- Screening of our new music video made by our song writing group
- Tours of the building
- A new exhibition written by local young people
- The unveiling of our new banner
